Questions I Hear Often

These answers outline the way I work and what you can expect when we connect. Everyone is unique—feel free to reach out if you’d like to explore anything in more detail.

How long are counselling sessions?

Counselling sessions can run for up to 90 minutes—enough time for the therapeutic work to be done, to attend to what you're feeling, and to transition back to a place of composure and functionality so you can return to your family, study or workplace without feeling rushed. Shorter sessions (e.g. 60 minutes) are available; telehealth can be tailored if needed. Couples counselling sessions can run between 90 minutes and 120 minutes.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No referral is required. You can contact me directly to discuss your needs, availability, and any questions you might have before booking.

What should I expect in my first session?

We’ll begin by clarifying what brings you in, your goals, and what has or hasn’t worked in the past. I’ll share how I work, answer your questions, and we’ll co-create a plan that fits your pace.

Do you offer online or phone sessions?

Yes. I provide in-person sessions in Tewantin as well as secure telehealth video or phone sessions for people across Australia and internationally. Some choose a blend of face-to-face and video sessions. You’re welcome to choose the format that feels right for you, and we can adjust as we go.

Can I claim with private health?

Many private health funds provide rebates for counselling. I issue receipts that contain the details required for you to contact your fund and claim directly.

Please check with your health fund that you are covered for eligible counselling or mental health services, as rebates and eligibility can vary by fund and membership type.

Recognised private health insurers include:

  • Medibank
  • ahm
  • Bupa
  • HCF
  • ARHG (Australian Regional Health Group) member funds, including St Luke's Health, Police Health, GMHBA, Emergency Services Health, Phoenix Health, CUA Health (now part of HBF), AIA Health, Teachers Union Health (TUH), and Westfund.
How does clinical supervision work with you?

Supervision sessions are 60 or 90 minutes and tailored to your practice context. We’ll explore complex cases, documentation requirements, ethical dilemmas, and how to remain congruent with your professional values.

Can I book a single session to see if we’re a fit?

Absolutely. A single session or a short series can help you decide if my approach aligns with what you need right now. You’re welcome to take advantage of the free 15-minute consultation, and I’m always happy to talk things through before you choose your next step.

What if I need to reschedule?

Life happens. If you need to reschedule, just let me know as soon as you can—24 hours’ notice means the time can be offered to someone else. When less than 24 hours’ notice is possible, a 50% administration fee applies (waived if you’re unwell).

Do you speak at community groups?

Yes. I give presentations on wellbeing and mental health for the Australian Counselling Association, and for local sporting, charity, senior, and RSL groups. Topics are tailored to the audience. If you'd like to explore a presentation, please contact me with a short note about your organisation and what you have in mind.
