My Supervision Story

Three things have kept me in the counselling and psychotherapy field for over 35 years:

  • 1. The chance to support people as they improve their mental health and wellness.
  • 2. The growth in therapeutic approaches—which pushes therapists to keep learning and to tailor how we work to each client’s goals and needs.
  • 3. Quality supervision—which has strengthened my confidence, competence and resilience, and in turn the quality of care I offer my clients.

My Core Philosophy of Supervision

Trust & Collaboration

My core philosophy is to cultivate a relationship grounded in trust, collaboration, and curiosity. This is a secure professional space where you can bring your whole self—your successes, your uncertainties, your challenges, and your questions.

We'll take a deep dive into complex client cases, exploring options, reflecting on ethical concerns, and working thoughtfully with dynamics such as transference, boundary and role clarity, and documentation and compliance requirements.

Professional Development

Ultimately, my hope is to help you develop your confidence, competence, and enthusiasm so you can thrive in this challenging yet very special profession.

I offer a professional and supportive supervision experience that provides the tools and space you need to progress with confidence.

Established Frameworks

My approach is grounded in established frameworks, including Whitmore's GROW Model, the Reflective Supervision Model (Hewson & Carroll), and the Rise Up Model (Dr Philip Armstrong).

I believe that individual supervision is a valuable setting for deep, meaningful work where you have the freedom to confidentially explore client cases, navigate organisational and system dynamics, and remain congruent with your professional values.

What to Expect

While my practice is rooted in clinical supervision, I also offer support to a wide range of professionals in roles where they are supporting others, from management to front-line staff. I welcome supervisees from all backgrounds.

My supervision sessions are a solid 60-90 minutes, providing ample time for in-depth reflection and skill development.

Key areas of support include:

  • Debriefing and support for crisis situations
  • Guiding you through ethical dilemmas and complex cases
  • Assisting you with subpoenas, complaints processes, and legal obligations
  • Helping you navigate the challenges of different organisational and systemic frameworks

My Journey in Supervision

My first counselling role as a crisis youth counsellor showed me within only a few months how demanding—and rewarding—this field can be. It was a high-energy position where I quickly learned the weight of self-care and of ethical challenges. The supervision I received was a lifeline—a "life-preserver"—and it taught me the immense value of a strong, supportive supervisory relationship. I have always sought out mentors who matched my specific professional needs, from trauma work to expressive therapies to business setup and maintenance; as a result, my own supervision approach is modelled on the qualities I have valued most in theirs.

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively within various systems across government and community, including child protection, youth justice, aged care, health and WorkCover, giving me a deep understanding of their unique complexities and the challenges practitioners face within these frameworks. This diverse experience has shaped my ability to provide relevant, practical supervision that meets the demands of contemporary professional practice.

I currently supervise practitioners who are self-employed in private practice, as well as those employed by community or government departments. My experience spans working with a diverse range of communities, including First Nations Peoples, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. This breadth of experience allows me to provide culturally sensitive and contextually appropriate supervision.
